Tokenchina has introduced pulse-withstanding chip resistors that combine extended surge values with high voltage ratings, promising design engineers a stable resistive device for demanding high power applications. Designated the PWR series, the resistors suited for power supplies and circuit protection devices, portable battery chargers, motor controls and line-powered equipment, are available in 0805, 1206, 2010 and 2512 chip sizes.


The combination of the high surge and high voltage ratings makes the PWR Series a good fit for the most demanding applications, including those involving lightning pulses and turn-on surges. Additionally, the footprint of the resistors is quite small, so they take up minimal board space, providing manufacturers with an excellent alternative to multi-chip solutions.


In the 0805, 1206, 2010 and 2512 package sizes, the PWR Series resistors feature power ratings of 0.125W, 0.33W, 0.75W, 1.5W, with maximum voltage ratings of 150V, 200V, 400V and 500V, respectively. Tokenchina will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

Construction

    Thick film resistor material, overglaze and organic protection are screen printed on a 96% alumina substrate. Wrap-around terminations have an electroplated nickel barrier and solder coating, this ensures excellent ‘leach’ resistance properties and solderability.

  • Resistors are tested in accordance with IEC 60 115-1 using both 1.2/50us and 10/700 pulse.shapes. The limit of acceptance is a shift in resistance of less than 1% from the initial value.
